The A.J. LaRue Arena is home to a single ice pad. The ice is usually put in mid-June to be ready for the summer season and then remains in place for the fall/winter season. The ice is taken out following Easter weekend.

In May and June the ice surface is available to rent for ball hockey or other functions.

The A.J. LaRue Arena is located at 728 Mountain Street in the the Village of Haliburton. 

Ice rates

The ice rates for the 2023/24 season have changes slightly. There are changes to the Christmas break and March break ice rates. Please note that the summer ice rates have increased and will take effect January 2024. 

Rentals

You can view ice availability online.  Please contact staff by phone 705-457-1740 x.635 or email recreation@dysartetal.ca to book the ice. 

Summer ice times and the summer ice calendar will become available to the public at the end of February 2024.

Public Skating

The Municipality of Dysart et al offers a variety of public skating and shinny options for the public to enjoy.

 

CSA approved hockey helmets are strongly recommended for all skaters regardless of age or ability. 

  • No person shall be permitted on the ice surface without skates
  • Youth 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult
  • Parents are not allowed to carry youth while on the ice surface
  • Tag, chase or reckless behaviours are not permitted
  • No food or drinks allowed on the ice surface, players benches or penalty boxes
  • Hockey sticks and pucks are not permitted during public skating
  • Wheelchairs are welcome on the ice at public skates permitted they have clean wheels and the patron is wearing a helmet. Wheelchair attendants must be wearing skates.

Shinny 

Sundays 9:00 - 9:50 am except tournament weekends

Shinny is a non-contact scrimmage session.

  • Full hockey equipment is required
  • CSA approved hockey helmets are required
  • Physical contact is not permitted
  • Goalies are permitted on the ice, provided they are wearing full goalie gear
  • Shooting the puck with excessive force will not be permitted

Parent and Tot Skate

Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 - 10:50 a.m. (except for Christmas break and March break)

  • An opportunity for parents/guardians to help young children develop their skating skills
  • Children must be five (5) years of age or younger and accompanied by and adult (up to 3 children per adult)
  • Children must wear a CSA approved helmet. 
  • Helmets are strongly recommended for all participants.
  • No food or drinks allowed on the ice surface, players bench or penalty boxes
  • Parents are not allowed to carry youth while on ice surface
  • No person shall be permitted on the ice surface without skates

Sponsoring a public skate

If you are interested in sponsoring an existing public skating program or providing additional public skating opportunities please call 705-457-1740 x.635.

Public skating sponsors will have their name/business name displayed in the lobby.  

Skating Parties

Skating parties consist of 50 minutes of ice time and a one hour auditorium rental. 

Fall/Winter skating parties cost $116.40 + insurance + HST.

Summer skating parties (from start of ice season up to and including Labour Day) $200 + insurance + HST.
