It was recently announced that Dysart et al was succesful in obtaining a two year grant from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport to undertake a sport and recreation pilot project. The project will focus on several initiatives including an unstructured, highly accessible, no-cost outdoor recreation program in partnership with the Haliburton County Library through an equipment loan program; an intergenerational Head Lake Trail Walking Program; a structured after-school and summer recreation program in partnership with Point in Time; community wide “Haliburton Try It – Be Active” events and revitalization and promotion of the disc golf course in Head Lake Park.
We are currently in the process of recruiting a part-time coordinator to oversee the pilot project in consultation with a steering committee comprised of partners. The Coordinator will also develop community consultation opportunities and prepare an asset inventory as a means to coordinate and potentially support community sports and recreation programming.
