Types of roads within the Municipality

There are four types of roads within the Municipality, each with a different function and level of service.

Highway 118 is an arterial road administered by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and maintained by private contractors, depending on the area:

Ontario's highway programs

Haliburton County maintains a collector road network throughout the Municipality, including:

  • County Road 1 - Gelert Road
  • County Road 3 - Glamorgan Road
  • County Road 6 - Eagle Lake Road
  • County Road 7 - Kennisis Lake Road
  • County Road 10 - Elephant Lake Road
  • County Road 14 - Haliburton Lake Road
  • County Road 15 - Burleigh Road
  • County Road 19 - Harburn Road
  • County Road 21
  • County Road 648 - Loop Road

The Municipality maintains 312 km of local roads, of which 216 km is hard topped and 96 km is gravel.

Private roads are generally on private property and open to specific users. Their intention is to connect properties with either the Provincial, County, or Municipal road network. The Municipality does not maintain these roads.
