Four Town Hall Meetings on Affordability and Governance Structure
Haliburton County, ON, Aug. 12, 2026 – Community members are invited to learn about options for a potential restructuring of the governance framework for the County of Haliburton and its four lower-tier municipalities and provide feedback during a series of town hall meetings from Aug. 25 to 31.
The meetings follow the publication of the final report for the County’s Community-wide Affordability and Governance Structure Study, completed by independent, third-party consultant the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN). Undertaken to address mounting financial pressures on the County and its lower-tier municipalities, the report provides options for enhanced long-term sustainability and analyzes four potential governance models.
“I encourage all residents of Haliburton County to make a point of attending one of the upcoming town hall meetings,” says County Warden Dave Burton. “This is ultimately a discussion about the community’s future, and we’re hoping as many people as possible will get involved, learn about the options, and provide their input.”
The town hall meetings will take place as follows:
• Tuesday, Aug. 25: Haliburton Legion, 6 to 8 p.m.
• Wednesday, Aug. 26: Minden Hills Community Centre, 6 to 8 p.m.
• Thursday, Aug. 27: Lloyd Watson Centre in Wilberforce, 6 to 8 p.m.
• Monday, Aug. 31: Stanhope Firefighters’ Community Hall, 6 to 8 p.m.
Registration is not required. Residents are welcome to attend any of the meetings, regardless of where they reside.
