Short-Term Renal Compliance Inspection

This summer the Short-Term Rental Inspections will be taking place.

These inspections are mandatory. Failure to allow access for inspection may result in enforcement action, including revocation of your Short-Term Rental licence.

As a registered Short-Term Rental (STR) property located within Dysart et al, your property is subject to:

  • A Short-Term Renal Compliance Inspection (included in your $500 fee)
  • A Septic Maintenance Inspection Fee (please see Septic Maintenance Program page)
  • A complimentary Lake Health Assessment (no additional fee)

Please note that cancelling your inspection without rescheduling or failing to have you or your authorized representative present on the scheduled date, will result in the revocation of your Short-Term Rental Licence. These inspections are mandatory.

  • The inspector will require access to the dwelling
  • The inspector will be doing a walk-through of the home to ensure that it matches the Fire Safety Plan that you submitted with your STR application
  • The inspector will be doing a walk around of the property to ensure that it matches the Site Plan that you submitted with your STR application

  • Ensure a copy of your site plan, fire safety plan, waste storage details, Renter's code of conduct, Noise By-law and copy of your Short-term Rental License are prepared and posted.
  • Ensure your property address (911) is visible and available.
  • Ensure that your Responsible person’s contact is listed and available for guests.
  • Ensure that your Fire Extinguisher, Co2 and Smoke Alarms are in good working order.
  • Ensure that your Fire Safety Plan matches the rooms and listed uses.
  • Ensure that all your exits are usable and clearly marked.
  • Ensure your bedroom count matches your application and is in compliance with your approved septic use.

A notice will be issued to the property providing further details regarding the date of your Short-Term Rental Inspection.

If you need to reschedule your inspection, please complete our online Rescheduling Form.

Alternatively, you may contact our office at septic@dysartetal.ca a minimum of 5 business days prior to your set inspection date. We will make every effort to accommodate Short-Term Rental Owners; however, given the high volume of inspection, scheduling flexibility may be limited.

Please Note: You cannot have a third-party inspector for the Short-Term Rental Inspection, a Municipal Staff member is required to do the inspection.

Participating in the Septic Inspection Program is one of the most practical and preventative steps you can take for lake water quality and your own infrastructure. Septic systems start to fail gradually not suddenly and inspections can help identify minor issues before they become major.

Please see our Septic Inspection page for more information regarding that portion of the inspection.

The Septic Maintenance Inspection Program is coordinating the scheduling of these inspections and will be managing any rescheduling requests. For questions regarding the inspection process, exemption requests, third-party inspector options, rescheduling, or payment, please contact the sewptic department at septic@dysartetal.ca.

The Municipality of Dysart et al has implemented a Short-Term Rental By-Law designed to ensure that Short-Term Rentals are managed responsibly and enhance the quality of life for everyone in our Community.

This By-Law includes updated process for registration, safety standards, Short-Term Rental Inspections and operational procedures. Our goal is to support you through this transition and ensure that you are fully compliant with the new requirements.

The Short-Term Rental Accommodation (STR) program launched in October 2024.

Residents and property owners who wish to rent out their properties for a period of less than 28 consecutive days, are required to obtain a licence.

For detailed information on the bylaw and how it might impact you, please review the links below or reach out to our support team at str@dysartetal.ca. We’re committed to making this process as smooth as possible and are here to help you navigate these changes effectively.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to maintaining a vibrant and safe community!

Please note that this licence fee is non-refundable.

If you'd like to submit a complaint regarding a Short-Term Rental, while our regular Report A Concern does work, we have setup a Hotline #: 705-809-5589 and a complaint form
