Covid-19 Dysart et al Municipal Update

The Municipality of Dysart et al Emergency Management Control Group has activated its Emergency Operations Centre and has made the decision to close public access to its administrative office at 135 Maple Avenue in Haliburton at 4:30 p.m. today.

The Regular Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 24th will continue as planned, but with a very limited agenda and no delegations.   All Committee meetings are being postponed until further notice.

 While we have a skeleton crew working in the office, we have as many staff as possible working remotely to increase our social distancing where possible.  Staff are all connected electronically and able to respond via email or by phone to address your concerns in any area including Fire, Roads, Landfills, Museum, Parks and Recreation, Finance, Building, By-Law, Planning and Administration.   Please contact the appropriate staff member as listed on our website at www.dysartetal.ca if you need an appointment and that can be arranged even if remotely.   The phone number for the Administration office is 705-457-1740.

With a tax due date here, we would like to remind residents that tax payments can be made online through your financial institution or in person at your bank or payment envelopes can be dropped in our secure mail slot at the left of the main entrance.  Please make sure envelopes contain payment stub or roll number so we can credit to the right tax account.  

Roads operations should be unaffected for the time being as our staff will be practicing social distancing and taking extra precautionary measures.  

Our Volunteer firefighters continue to respond to calls, but will take extra safety precautions.  

Landfills will continue to operate during regular hours for the time being, but staff have put extra safety and hygiene measures in place.  Cash will not be accepted at the landfill at this time, but credit and debit cards are both available if necessary at Haliburton and West Guilford only.  We will also continue to use existing charge accounts.    If possible, limit your trip to the landfill to include only regular household garbage and recycling during this period so you can avoid handling the payment system altogether.  

Building inspections will continue to be scheduled at this time, but we may ask that homeowners and contractors not be present during the inspection to minimize human interaction and reduce the risk of transmission.  Even though our office will be closed, you can still reach building, by-law and septic staff by phone or email during regular work hours.   Home owners and contractors are asked to make electronic submissions of new building permit applications.  The $100 administrative permit application fee will be deferred to the time of approval of the permit so you don’t have to enter the office to make that payment currently.

Planning staff can also receive applications electronically.  Contact staff for payment alternatives.  

Dysart et al is suspending the requirement to pay for parking in the downtown area until further notice. 

At this time, public facilities including the A.J. LaRue Arena, the Haliburton Highlands Museum and the West Guilford and Harcourt Community Centres remain closed and all programming has been cancelled. 

The ice will be taken out of the arena at this time which means all tournaments will have to be cancelled for the remainder of the spring unfortunately.

These measures are being taken in response to concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and the recommendation for social distancing for the protection of both the public and our staff.

Try to stay positive. We have a well coordinated team working together with the other lower tier Municipalities and the County of Haliburton and we are going to continue to serve the public and provide necessary services as best as we can, while taking all precautions available to ensure public and staff safety.   Our Emergency Management Control Group will meet again on Friday, March 20th, 2020 and we will issue an update at that time.
