Marriage is an important and wonderful time in any couple’s life. Although the
preparation and planning can sometimes be challenging, we hope we can help with the information we are
providing here. |
|
|
Are you under the age of 16? Sorry, it is not legal for persons under 16 years of
age to marry. |
|
|
Any person who is 16 or 17 years of age may marry with written consent of a
legal guardian (except a widow, widower or divorced person). A special consent form is available for
this purpose from our office. |

Your License Is Valid For Three (3) Months From The Date Of Issue |
|
|
- A marriage license can only be issued to the parties getting married. At least one party must attend at the time of issuance.
- The Marriage License Application form must have BOTH signatures.
- The issuer may require proof of age of either party. (If only one party is applying, he/she must bring proof of age of the other party.) All minors must submit proof of age. We may require the original or certified copy of the birth certificates for both parties and a photo driver’s license. A signed and notarized Form 5 (affidavit of age) must be completed and submitted along with the marriage application if proof of age cannot be established.
- If you have been divorced within Canada we will require the original or certified copy of the Certificate of Divorce or Decree Absolute from the Court where the divorce was granted. Photocopies are not acceptable.
- For divorces granted out of Canada, please contact the nearest Divisional Registrar of the Ministry of Consumer and Business Services for further instructions or requirements.
- If you live at a rural route number if you have a post office box number as an address, we require a 9-1-1 address.
- Marriage License Fee is $100.00 – cash, certified cheque or money order only please.
- If you are being married in a rural Municipality, we require the Township or Village, and County or District where the ceremony will be taking place.
- There are no requirements respecting residency, pre-marital blood tests or medical certificates. A marriage license is valid for use anywhere in Ontario. The license expires 3 months after the date of issue.
- Hours of Issue: Monday to Friday: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. AN APPOINTMENT IS REQUIRED. Please contact Tammy Wilson to make an appointment.
